PPG’s electronic materials coatings group has published a new eight-page brochure covering its complete line of transparent coatings for glass substrates in consumer electronics applications. The booklet organizes the coatings – which are commonly used to enhance and protect display screens on tablets, smartphones, computers, televisions and other electronic and interactive devices – into three categories: anti-smudge (AS), anti-glare (AG) and anti-reflective (AR) / low-reflective (LR) coatings. PPG formulates the products so that they can be combined to offer consumer electronics manufacturers a complete pre-engineered, pre-stacked and pre-packaged transparent coatings solution.

David Malobicky, PPG general manager, electronic materials, said the brochure highlights the diverse range of transparent coatings solutions available from PPG. “We make transparent coatings for everything from eyeglasses to appliances to airplane windows,” he explained. “This brochure highlights our ability to translate that vast technical knowhow into coatings for brilliant and durable display screens on some of the world’s most popular consumer electronic devices.”

In addition to general product descriptions, the brochure contains test data such as wear durability for anti-smudge coatings; scratch resistance and coatings uniformity for anti-glare coatings; and wear durability, reflectance and light transmittance for low- and anti-reflective coatings. Other performance specifications include gloss value, roughness, pencil hardness, haze, adhesion and coefficient of friction. The brochure also highlights complementary PPG coatings for the consumer electronics industry, including vacuum metallized coatings for plastic, metal and composite casings; conductive coatings for printed-circuit materials; soft-touch liquid coatings for computer and smartphone keypads; and ultraviolet-curable (UV-curable) clear coats and electrocoats for other surfaces and applications. There also is information about PPG’s strategically located manufacturing and customer-support facilities, as well as its global research-and-development capabilities that enable consumer electronics manufacturers to develop colors and coatings collaboratively with PPG.
